Expert Tree Care in the Chicago Area since 1985 |
Northbrook is a village located at the northern edge of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 33,435 at the 2000 census, and estimated to be 34,190 as of 2005.
When incorporated in 1901, the village was known as Shermerville in honor of Frederick Schermer, who donated the land for its first train station. The village changed its name to Northbrook in 1923 as an effort to improve its public image. The name was chosen because the west fork of the north branch of the Chicago River runs through the Village.
With more than 15,000 trees growing in the parkway, the Village of Northbrook has been recognized as a Tree City U.S.A. community since 1994, and received the Tree City Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation 11 times since 1998 for replanting parkway trees. To maintain the Village's parkway trees maintenance workers, supervisors, a Village Forester, and a superintendent respond to resident requests about parkway trees and proactively manage the Village's urban forest
The Village of Northbrook provides residents with access to its staff of certified arborists to answer general questions about public and private trees, identify tree species on public and private property, identify what trimming can be done when a tree is on a neighbor's property, and discuss treatments for common tree ailments or infestations. Village staff does not perform work on private trees.
