TREE CARE IN SKOKIE

Skokie Tree Care

The Village of Skokie, Illinois, located 16 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 12 miles east of O'Hare International Airport, provides high-quality government services to the over 66,000 residents, 24,000 households and 2,400 businesses that call Skokie their home.

The Skokie Public Works Department is the largest of the Village's departments. One or more of the Department's division activities touch the lives of Skokie citizens everyday. The Skokie Public Works Department is comprised of a team of technical and administrative personnel dedicated to providing excellent service.

There are more than 24,000 trees located in public spaces in the Village of Skokie that provide benefits to all of its citizens. The primary goal of the Forestry Division is to maintain the health and safety of these public trees and to increase the urban forest, so that it increases in value and functions into perpetuity.

The Forestry Division manages and performs many functions in order to achieve this goal. Tree pruning, tree removal, tree planting, disease control and tree protection are all programs managed by this Division. The authority for these functions is given by the Village Tree Ordinance.

Because of the Forestry Division's efforts, the Village of Skokie has received Tree City U.S.A. status since 1985. Tree City U.S.A. is a program to recognize communities that effectively manage their public tree resources.
